Moon Taxi made their way to Washington, D.C.’s 9:30 Club for the first of two nights. Since Halloween falls midweek, Saturday was the defacto party leading to a crowd complete with superwoman, plenty of cats and a few guys in onesies. On stage, the band was dressed as themselves, but brought the party along.
The band hit the stage around 7:45 and while it felt early, the crowd was already amped from opener Moon Hooch and from the second the lights went down, it was a full out party. The setlist was a mix of more recent hits and older favorites sprinkled with a cover of Earth, Wind & Fire’s September leading into River Water and a drum solo by Tyler Ritter set to Eleanor Rigby.
With an overarchingly positive theme in the lyrics, it was the perfect uplifting soundtrack to what started as a somber morning across the country (see below for a few words). Songs like ‘Not Too Late’ serve as the reminder that there’s always time to go chase dreams and ‘Good as Gold’ is the anthem for achieving that dream.
While the Good as Gold tour is nearly at it’s end, Moon Taxi is far from done. You can follow the band and find the latest updates here.
A Few Words:
Waking up this morning to news of the attack at a synagogue in Pittsburgh, I grappled with the thought that I’d later be attending a concert. It seems as though every few months, something happens that hits closer and closer to home. Yet caving to that fear of something happening is exactly what shouldn’t be done. A few years ago, I stood at a soundcheck for a James Bay concert as reports of the Paris attacks rolled in. We came back for the show to one of the most passionate crowds I’ve ever witnessed. It was as though everyone wanted to prove that this vile act had nothing on the power of song. While I don’t practice religion weekly, you better believe that the next time I step into a synagogue, it will be with passion & without fear. Tonight at the concert, fans of all ages & backgrounds joined together to sing and dance and smile and forget for a little while what a crazy weird world we live in. Today, tomorrow and everyday, let’s focus on being kind to people who might be different than us. Let’s listen to other perspectives & when we have chances to create change, let’s commit to stepping up and doing it.
