It has been exactly one month since I set foot back on American soil and I still miss Europe just as much. Every day there is some mention of London, I listen to an artist from there, I revisit an old photo, I make a dish, etc. Being a tourist for a few days and living in a city are completely different feelings. Knowing I can never have the exact same feeling in London that I did the few months I lived there is difficult, but now I’m buried under internship applications, work and homework so I guess it helps to keep me distracted (even if just for a few hours).
I was reading an article about living abroad and the following quote struck a chord, “You will never be completely at home again, because part of your heart will always be elsewhere. That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place.” If you have ever lived abroad then you probably understand. If you haven’t well.. I don’t know how to explain what it’s like, but imagine taking everything you know, opening your eyes just a little wider and then having to try and pinch them shut again.
