Toronto native Chase Aden released her debut EP recently, and we caught up to chat about her music, influences, and what you can expect to see from her. She’s unbelievably grounded and a ton of fun to chat with. Instead of having a Facebook Fan Page, she’s got her Facebook profile linked so that you can actually talk to her and get to know her. See what she had to say below, and make sure to check out her music as well!
Arin: What really got you interested in music and made you want to pursue it as a career?
Chase: Well, I’m not really good at anything else other than putting on a really good show. I guess you can say – and as much as I’d like to think I’m passionate about other things – this is really what I’m most passionate about. If I wasn’t on stage, I would definitely be behind it doing things on the side and perhaps even managing artists or directing music videos, but for now, I’m happy where I am.
A: How did you develop your sound and who are some of your biggest influences?
C: Well, my influences are all over. I love really old country and I love pop music. I also love the divas who can really, really sing. It’s a little bit of everything in on. When we were writing the record, we started out with a clean slate. We weren’t sure which direction [we were] going in because we wanted to start with nothing, and then every day my producer and I would go in and we’d start working on one song and then we got the feel for that and we really liked the direction it was going, and then it just progressed into more pop music.
A: The EP is out, but what is coming next for you?
C: Coming up next is a lot of push to get people hearing the EP. I want everyone to hear that, so a lot of focus [is] on getting people listening to it, enjoying it, and then following that up with some shows. The music video this summer and maybe working on some new material, but I want to see where this EP goes.
A: Out of the music that you have right now, do you have a favorite song?
C: It does change from week to week, but I think right now I’m really enjoying ‘Secret Agent Lover.’ It’s the last song in my set and it’s probably my favorite out of all of them.
A: Social media is obviously a huge part of music now, so how do you stay in touch with everyone?
C: Well, I do everything when it comes to the social media aspects. When you send a message to me on Twitter, you’re getting me and I respond to every single tweet [and] direct message. I’m also on Facebook, but it’s not a facebook fan page, it’s just a regular facebook page so I can interact with people. If someone adds me and I see that they have a nice photo, I like to comment on it; they’re more than just a fan, I guess. It keeps it more personal. As far as instagram, it would all be photos of my dog, but I try to hold back so – because it would be, I love her so much. But I do instagram quite a bit, but I don’t like to take too many photos because I think people will get too bored if I take way too many photos of myself; so I like to keep it sporadic. As far as YouTube goes, I’m trying to come up with some really fun videos and post those too. I try to post as much content as I can, but I try to keep it separated so it’s not overwhelming.
A: If you could tour with anyone or even just play one off show with, who would it be?
C: That’s a really hard question. I have all these names in my head, but I don’t even know. It would be out of this world to tour with Gaga because her fans are just awesome. They’re unbelievably loyal and just one of a kind, but at the same time I’d love to tour with some guys too. I don’t know, let’s just say anybody.
