Jayme Dee is making a splash with her fun music and great music. Her single “Tip Toes” is just plain fun and is the perfect song to kick back and listen to. Through her facebook page/website and Youtube channel, you can not only hear original music, but also some great covers. Expect to see an album from Jayme later this year or early next; but in the meantime, check out her music and the answers to some of my questions below!
Arin: What got you into music initially?
Jayme: I grew up in a super musical household. My mom’s a musician, and it’s always just been a part of me.
A: What can people expect to hear from your album?
J: There’s definitely a dynamic to my record; I think it tells a story. My first single, “Tip Toes,” is a fun, upbeat song about the rush of new love. The rest of my record has a flow stemming from that with hip hop undertones, ranging from more soulful ballads to boy bashing anthems :)
A: Do you have a favorite moment of your live performance?
J: One of the first songs I ever wrote, “Love Whiplash,” is still my favorite to sing live. It’s going on the album and it’s fun to perform, especially when people in the audience know the words!
A: What is your overall goal with music?
J: I just hope to inspire people however I can. I hope people can listen to my music and relate their circumstances to it. Everybody has their happy mix and their sad mix on their iPod; I just hope I can make it on someone’s playlist and bring out some emotion in people.
A: If you could tour with anyone, who would it be?
J: Gotta say, I’d love to tour with John Mayer.
A: Are you currently working with any charities or non profits or are there causes that you support?
J: I’m currently working with 31 Bits, an awesome jewelry company that helps women in Uganda rise above poverty. Their jewelry is made out of 100% recycled paper by women in Northern Uganda and I custom designed my own bracelet here: http://31bits.com/shop/partnerships/the-jayme-dee-bracelet.html
A: Who are some of your favorite bands to listen to at the moment?
J: My current obsession is Kimbra. She sang the 2nd verse in “Somebody That I Used to Know” – on the Gotye song – but also has an epic album of her own. I’m also a big fan of Lana Del Rey’s album, and “Super Rich Kids” by Frank Ocean.
A: What can people expect to see from you through the rest of this year?
J: I’m coming out with an EP sometime this fall. I’m really excited to get some more music out soon!
