Jason and I chatted about his recently released album, charity involvement and working with Colbie Caillat! Make sure to check outfor all the lastest info!
Q: What got you into songwriting and music to begin with?
A: Michael Jackson was the first person that I ever loved in music. He was my favorite when I was a little kid, but I never started writing music until I discovered Bob Dylan and he was pretty much the main reason I started writing songs.
Q: What was the first song you ever wrote about?
A: I don’t even remember that was so long ago! I don’t remember many of the first songs I wrote because they weren’t any good.
Q: Colbie Caillat brought you into the publics eye in a way, so what was it like working with her in the beginning?
A: Neither of us knew what we we’re doing and we were just writing songs for fun. We didn’t expect what happened to happen and it was kid of a miracle and I think that still we’re doing the same thing now that we’ve always done which is to just make music except for now we have to tour more and don’t spend as much time with each other.
Q: The new album came out recently so what has the release been like?
A: It’s good to have new music out. Even though the release was a few weeks ago it still feels like it just happened.
Q: What’s next now that the album is out?
A: I’m just writing a lot of music and recording more songs. I’m trying to move on to the next thing.
Q: Is there someone you want to write with that you have not had the chance to yet?
A: I haven’t written with most of the people I want to write with. There’s so many amazing musicians I want to write with I mean Eminem for one, but that’s probably not going to happen. You never know though.
Q: Do you have a favorite song you have written?
A: No. I haven’t written my favorite yet, I’m still trying.
Q: Are you big into Twitter and Facebook?
A: Yeah I use it as much as I can. I try to write back and talk to people, because I think it’s a crazy phenomenon that we have as humans and we might as well take advantage of it.
Q: Are there any charities or nonprofits you are involved with?
A: I want to become involved with a lot of them, but I haven’t had the time to commit to a specific one, but I’ve done stuff with various ones just on a small level but there’s a lot of things going on with the world that need help and I’m going to start eating more involved when I have more time off.
Q: Is there a specific cause you want to work with?
A: I think preserving the world, and there’s many forms of that with forests and jungles and keeping people from building on wilderness, it’s all big deal to me. Also people that don’t have water is kind of a huge deal.
