Sometimes lyrics take a back seat to the vocals or vice versa. James Morrison’s The Awakening is a perfect blend of the two. Filled with emotion after the traumatic loss of his father and the joy of becoming a father himself, Morrison took three years to create a musical masterpiece. It is an album that I can listen to without the need to skip a track and can simply bring a smile to my face.
One of my personal favorites is Around The World. Although I still can’t figure out exactly what drew me to this song, the soulful sounds and milky vocals work in harmony to create a pleasing song. Earlier this year I had heard an acoustic version of Morrison’s Wonderful World on the hit show So You Think You Can Dance. This UK sensation brought back what made me originally fall in love with his music. His vocal tone that is not over edited and perfectly mixed with his music is what you get with his new album. I would suggest this album to any music fan but specifically those who love Mayer, Mraz, DeGraw and to anyone else in that ever-expanding category.
