Frank and I chatted a bit about his music. Check out what he has to say!
Q: What got you into music?
A: I was born on Elvis Presley’s birthday, named after Frank Sinatra, and am related to Buddy Holly. Music has always been in my blood. My dad was a trumpet player in the big bands and my mom had a huge record collection. Music was always all around me and I had a natural talent for learning any and all instruments. I started writing music very young as well, and have been performing every since I was a little kid.
Q: Who are some of your musical influences?
A: My motto is “influenced by none, inspired by many”. However, my favorite composer is Borodin, and I have many favorite recordings and bands such as The Hollies, Beatles, Swinging Blue Jeans, etc. I have always been an original though and feel it’s a waste of time to just imitate other peoples music. I have too much music in me to have to go in search of others ideas or anything like that. I write from the heart.
Q: What goals do you have with music?
A: Well my main goal is to achieve a catalog of works of mine recorded by me and to keep performing and recording as I’ve done all my life. I’d like to at least finish releasing my most important works. My new LP which is due in the fall is my best work yet so I’m excited about that.
Q: Who has been the coolest person you have worked with?
A: There have been many – Randy Fuller from the Bobby Fuller Four, Doug Fieger from the Knack, non-musicians such as Anthony Mason (CBS News), Bob Boilen (NPR), etc.
Q: How do you communicate with fans?
A: I list my email on my website, it’s always great to hear from them. I get on Facebook and Twitter as much as time allows, all of the social sites. I’ve received letters from all over the world as well and I always write them back with a photo.
Q: Are there any charities you are involved with?
A: Diabetes, also right now my mom is terminal with cancer so I’d like to get involved with the Cancer societies in the future.
