Q: Where did you get the inspiration for the song and music video “If You Only Knew”?
A: For the song, I always hear my fans talking about how they’re in love with some celebrity, and so I was like that would be a cool concept; ‘If you only knew it would be a dream come true to stand here next to you.’ So I have a few celebrity crushes myself, but who doesn’t? So we just decided to write a song about that and the concept for the video is pretty much made this guy named Cas, he’s on this hit TV show, and I’m in love with him, and it’s kind of me dreaming about meeting him and at the end of the video it ends up him being a huge fan of mine and watching my videos on YouTube. We wanted to incorporate the whole YouTube thing because that’s how I started and it’s kind of, what got me to where I am today.
Q: Has there been a lot of music in your family?
A: Not really. My mom plays the violin so she is musical, but my dad is not. I don’t really know where I got it.
Q: Where do you find inspiration for songs?
A: It depends; sometimes I get inspiration from my best friends’ boy friend problems, or hard times, my own boy problems. Even when I’m watching a movie or something, it will spark an idea or if I’m walking in the airport and I see something going on I’m like, ‘Hmm that sparks an idea.’ Just random things spark ideas in my mind and write them down really quickly, but I get inspiration from a bunch of different things.
Q: What is most important, in your eyes, about being a musician?
A: Having a voice; I can support all of these charities that I have been supporting ever since I was young, like the Humane society, now I actually get to do stuff with them, support them and it’s been really cool.
Q: How do you feel you are different from other YouTube singers?
A: I try to reply to my fans as much as possible, and I think the fans really appreciate that.
Q: When you saw there were more than a million views of some of your videos, what did you think?
A: I was just really surprised; I had no idea that so many people were watching my videos. At the time when I first created the YouTube account, it was just to get myself out there and create somewhat of a fan base. I’m very thankful for my YouTube fans!
Q: What would you like to accomplish in 2010?
A: I am hoping to get an album out, at the end of the year or hopefully midyear. I also want to travel a lot and tour a lot. Perform everywhere; we’ll see if that comes true.
Q: What artist do you aspire to be like?
A: Celine Dion is a huge inspiration, and I really look up to her. Also, I really like Christina Aguilera; her voice is amazing. I just think that Celine Dion has just done a really great job carrying herself, and everyone really respects her or who she is. Taylor Swift is so classy, and she’s a great role model, and I think that she is a pretty big inspiration too.
Q: What was the coolest performance you have done?
A: I did a show with Nat and Alex on the Nat and Alex tour and that was a really fun show. Just getting to perform at the Roxy was a dream come true and it’s such a historical place. And it’s a pretty famous venue, so I was excited to perform there. Some of my friends came out, so that was fun. I just recently performed at City Walk in California, and that was awesome. I did that with Emily Osment from Hannah Montana, so that was really cool. Also, I did a show in Ida, Michigan, and it was freezing cold; but it was a really fun one.
Q: If you could have a song on any show, what show would it be?
A: I would have to say Gossip Girl. My friend and I are obsessed and just to watch it and then all the sudden hear my song while Serena and Dan are telling each other how much they love each other would be so cool! I’d also love to hear my song on the Office; it’s my other favorite show.
Q: Do you talk to fans on Twitter?
A: All the time! I like always say on Twitter what I’m doing, but I always reply back to fans as much as I can and Twitter is such a great way to get feedback. I just type it in really fast and then I get replies back.
