Q: What got you into music?
A: I sang the national anthem at a professional basketball game when I was two. My mom sings and she was in charge of lining up people to sing at the games. Shed bring me to rehearsals and somehow I learned all the words. Someone said “why don’t you have Kalie sing it?” so I sang it, and the basketball team started crying.
Q: Who is your biggest inspiration?
A: Jordin Sparks is my biggest inspiration.
Q: How does she inspire you?
A: She is such a devoted and beautiful woman with great talent. She’s so down to earth and nice to be around. I’ve only met her once but we had a great conversation. She’s curvy, and I respect that. She’s proof that you don’t have to be a stick to be beautiful. I love the songs she writes as well. Meeting her was a great experience.
Q: What show would you like to record the Theme Song for?
A: Jersey Shore!
Q: Why?
A: Because it’s a really funny show, but serious at the same time. It gets a bad rap, but I love Snooki. I mean sure, she’s no Michelle Obama as far as class goes, but she’s interesting and I’d love to meet her.
Q:What is your favorite part about music?
A: The way it can make any bad situation better. Listening to a Taylor Swift song after a breakup helps you realize that other people have gone through the same stuff. Or listening to a song like “I’ve Got A Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas before you go out instantly makes you more optimistic. And whoa right as I was typing that, that song came on the radio. Fate? I think not.
Q: What has been the best moment of you music career so far?
A: Probably getting an email from Sony Records saying that I won Jordin Sparks’ singing contest. Or have them ask me to send in my demo, that was pretty cool too. Or having a fansite made. There’s a lot of cool things that have happened, and it’s coming at me so fast. If you had told me six months ago that I’d be where I am now, I would have said you were crazy. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2010.
Q: What is it like to have a song on Itunes?
A: It’s really cool to know that your face and name are on people’s iPod. Or hearing from fans, having them say things like, “your song describes what I’m going through exactly!” like, knowing people look to my music for healing, just like I would to artists like Taylor Swift and Jordin Sparks.
Q: Where did you get the inspiration for the song?
A: It’s about a guy who is currently out of my life completely, which is for the better. It’s basically about wanting to be with someone, but knowing you’ll get hurt just like all the other times, because he can never be real with you, he hides his true feelings behind this front he puts up, and you can only get the slightest idea from a quick glimpse into the pain in his eyes.
Q: What is your biggest goal for 2010?
A: To meet Justin Bieber? Haha just kidding. To be able to start recording a full album, and surround myself with people I trust. I’d also like to try to be the best role model I can be to the young girls who look up to me. I’d like my fans to be able to relate to my music.
